Blinn introduces new tool to help students develop the perfect course schedule

The new ‘Build My Schedule’ tool allows students to conveniently select the best schedule for their busy lifestyles

April 3, 2019

The Blinn College District is making it easier for today’s busy students to find the perfect course schedule.

Beginning with the 2019 May Minimester and Summer I, Summer II, and Fall semesters, Blinn’s new “Build My Schedule” tool generates a personalized schedule based upon each student’s preferences. Using the “Build My Schedule” tool in the myBLINN student portal, students can create the schedule that fits their lifestyle, taking the courses they need to pursue their degree while setting time aside for work, athletics, and other priorities.

“This tool makes it easy for Blinn College students to develop a schedule that meets their specific needs,” said Dr. John Turner, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Services and Executive Dean, Brenham Campus. “With the ‘Build My Schedule’ tool, Blinn students don’t need to pull out their pen and paper and spend hours agonizing over their schedule for the upcoming semester. With a few clicks of the mouse, they can choose the schedule that will make them most successful in the semester ahead.”

To use the “Build My Schedule” tool, students who have applied and been accepted need only log into myBLINN and select the Build My Schedule button. Students then select the courses they would like to take, block off the times when they are unavailable, and allow the system to generate their schedule options.

Students can then review each possible schedule, choose their favorite, and click the “Shopping Cart” button to proceed with registration.

Current students can register now for Blinn’s May Minimester and the Summer I, Summer II, and Fall semesters. Registration opens for all students on Wednesday, April 10.

The three-week May Minimester runs Monday, May 13, through Wednesday, May 29, and registration is available through Sunday, May 12.  Students can enroll in the Summer I semester through Sunday, June 2, and the Summer II semester through Sunday, July 7. Fall semester registration is open through Sunday, Aug. 25.

Blinn offers courses online and at its Brenham, Bryan, RELLIS, Schulenburg, and Sealy campuses. Blinn’s online courses offer students greater flexibility in scheduling their courses, and academic and student support are available through the College’s online student portal, myBLINN. Blinn offers a variety of resources for students considering online courses at www.blinn.edu/online, including an orientation course, tips for taking online courses, tutorials, and frequently asked questions.

Blinn’s academic transfer rate is the highest in the state and Blinn has partnered with Texas A&M University to develop pioneering co-enrollment programs such as the Texas A&M-Blinn TEAM Program, the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Bryan, and the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham

According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s CollegeForAllTexans.com, out-of-district Blinn students who enrolled in 30 credit hours during the 2018-19 academic year saved 42 percent in tuition and fees compared to students at public universities across the state. In addition to Blinn’s low tuition and fees, the Blinn Foundation offers more than 200 endowed scholarships available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors, and experiences. Current and prospective students can complete a single application to apply for all Blinn scholarships at www.blinn.edu/scholarships.
