The Blinn College District Board of Trustees adopted a resolution Tuesday authorizing the issuance of approximately $30 million in revenue bonds to fund the development of a new science, technology, engineering, and innovation building on the Blinn-Brenham Campus.
The board also authorized Blinn to negotiate, award, and execute a contract with PBK Architects, Inc. for design and construction services related to the science, technology, engineering, and innovation building.
While the project remains in its preliminary stages, one of the primary goals of the new facility is to provide expanded laboratory space for Blinn’s science, engineering, and health science programs. Blinn’s Brenham Campus Vocational Nursing Program is one of the premier programs in the state, with more than 97 percent of students who have taken the National Council Licensure Examination over the past five years passing on the first attempt. The Brenham Campus also is home to the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham , which allows high achieving students to pursue their engineering degree while co-enrolled at Texas A&M University and Blinn.
In other business, the board authorized Blinn to award contracts to:
- Marek Brothers Construction, Inc. for parking, grading, and drainage improvements at the RELLIS Campus;
- Conlee-Garrett Moving & Storage for moving services related to the relocation of Blinn programs from the Texas A&M Health Science Center to the RELLIS Academic Complex on the RELLIS Campus;
- SKG for furniture in the W.L. Moody, Jr. Library, which currently is under renovation; and
- Madison Construction, LP for Brenham Campus site improvements that include replacing campus lighting, sidewalks, and a retaining wall.
