Learn.org ranks Blinn among the nation’s best community colleges

Website recognizes Blinn’s state-leading transfer rate and variety of student services

March 28, 2019

A website committed to helping students meet their academic goals has named the Blinn College District one of the best community colleges in the nation.

Learn.org ranked Blinn No. 2 in the State of Texas and No. 20 in the nation, pointing to Blinn’s high academic transfer rate, robust alumni network, and variety of student services.

Blinn has established itself as the best two-year college in the state for students seeking to transfer to a four-year university. According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Blinn’s academic transfer rate of 45.4 percent ranks No. 1 among all Texas community colleges and almost doubles the state-wide average of 23.1 percent.

In addition to its many transfer agreements, Blinn has developed pioneering co-enrollment programs such as the Texas A&M-Blinn TEAM Program, the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Bryan, and the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham. Blinn also is a partner in The Texas A&M University System’s RELLIS Academic Alliance, which creates seamless pathways for students to earn bachelor’s degrees in related fields from the A&M System regional universities located at the RELLIS Campus.

Blinn supports all its students with a variety of resources, including academic advising, counseling, disability services, financial aid and scholarships, student activities, and veteran services. Blinn’s libraries, learning centers, and writing centers provide students the resources and tutoring they need to succeed inside and outside the classroom.

Upon graduation, Blinn students continue to receive support through the College’s strong alumni network. Blinn’s Alumni and Friends Association maintains contact with former students, encourages support for and participation in Blinn’s educational, cultural, athletic, and social programs, encourages student recruitment, and assists the College in achieving its goals and objectives.

Blinn’s academic excellence is matched only by its affordability. According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s CollegeForAllTexans.com, out-of-district Blinn students who enroll in 30 credit hours during the 2018-19 academic year save 42 percent in tuition and fees compared to students at public universities across the state. In addition to Blinn’s low tuition and fees, the Blinn Foundation offers more than 200 endowed scholarships available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors, and experiences. Current and prospective students can complete a single application to apply for all Blinn scholarships at www.blinn.edu/scholarships.

Current Blinn students can apply for the May Minimester and the Summer I, Summer II, and Fall semesters beginning Monday, April 1. Registration for all students opens Wednesday, April 10.
