Blinn launches Bryan Campus Speaking Center
Students of all disciplines are invited to conquer their fear of public speaking
January 18, 2019
Blinn College District students of all disciplines are invited to conquer their fear of public speaking with the College District’s new Bryan Campus Speaking Center.
Managed by the Communication Studies Program, the Speaking Center allows students the opportunity to practice their speeches and presentations in front of Blinn faculty. The center can assist with speech anxiety, content delivery, organization, and delivery tips, and is not restricted to Blinn students in public speaking courses.
“We have noticed that many of our students have only practiced their speeches or presentations by themselves,” Speech Instructor Jay Pedregosa said. “It is more helpful to practice in front of an audience, not only to receive personal feedback but to help lessen the anxiety of speaking to a group.”
The Speaking Center is open from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday in H-234. Students can sign up for 30-minute sessions to get one-on-one speech feedback for individual or group presentations. To schedule an appointment, visit booking.appointy.com/blinnspeakingcenter.
Walk-ins are welcome.
“We are here to help students feel more confident about their presentation, and to improve communication skills beyond the realm of the classroom,” Pedregosa said.
