Blinn to host registration sessions for ESL and GED/college readiness courses
Registration available Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 17 and 18, at the Bryan Adult Learning Center
September 13, 2018
The Blinn College District will host two registration sessions next week for adult students interested in enrolling in free English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) and GED/college readiness courses this fall.
Registration for ESL courses will be available from 9-11 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, and registration for the GED/college readiness courses will be from 9-11 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17. Registration is available at the Bryan Adult Learning Center, located at 1700 Palasota Drive in Bryan.
Both the ESL and GED/college readiness courses are free of charge, and are offered during days and evenings.
“These courses are designed to prepare students for college or a career,” said Allen Thomas, Director of Adult Education and Literacy. “Adult Education prepares students to enter the workforce or higher education so that we can improve our local economy and help local residents find rewarding career paths.”
Blinn offers basic, intermediate, and advanced ESL courses that ultimately prepare students to work or enroll in classes taught in English. Students who enter the program can range from those who speak no English to those prepared for advanced courses.
The GED/college readiness courses cover all four areas of the GED: reading and language, social studies, science, and mathematics. Students seeking to prepare for the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) can also enroll in the course in advance of taking or re-taking the test.
