Tech Academy May 2013 - Blended Course Design

The focus of the May 2013 Tech Academy is blended course design and content development.
Please review the following information before registering via the link at the bottom of this page.

What are Blended Courses?

  • Blended courses combine the best features of the on-campus and online classroom.

  • A blended course is one in which the majority (more than 50% but less than 85%) of planned instruction occurs when the instructor and student(s) are not in the same place.

  • Students are required to attend the scheduled face-to-face class sessions in addition to participating in the online class sessions facilitated through the Blinn College eCampus learning management system.

Objectives for this hands-on workshop include:

  • Identifying the advantages of the online and face-to-face classroom components of a blended class and development of lessons for 2 units of instruction that bridge online and face-to-face sessions to produce the desired learning outcomes.

  • Applying the principles of backwards course design to develop a minimum of 2 units of blended course content with assessments targeting stated behavioral objectives.

  • Recognizing the importance of communication and interaction as best practices in the blended classroom and integration of technologies and teaching strategies that promote student engagement with peers, instructor, and course content to build an engaged community of learners.

When and Where?

  • Brenham Session - Monday, May 13th through Thursday May 16th - Arts and Sciences Building Room 211 - 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Lunch is provided.

Can anyone register for this training?

  • Pre-requisite for enrollment - completion of eCampus training - this is absolutely necessary. This academy will not cover the 'basics' of eCampus.
Participants develop course content in eCampus. Training in eCampus is required to apply the concepts of course design presented in this session.

  • Enrollment is open to full-time and part-time Blinn College instructors who have completed eCampus training. Seating is limited. You must register in order to attend.
