Academic Advisement

Blinn College encourages all students to participate in academic advisement throughout their tenure here. The Academic Advisement process includes meeting with a counselor or faculty advisor to choose courses and make appropriate decisions concerning students' academic goals. The following populations of students are required to be advised each semester prior to registration:

  • students enrolling at Blinn College for the first time

Exceptions:
1. students co-enrolled at a senior institution which provides appropriate approval; and/or
2. students who have passed all parts of THEA (or alternative approved test) or are
THEA exempt. This group of students must sign a self-advising waiver form.

  • students who fail any part of the THEA test (or alternative approved test)
  • students who are on scholastic probation

The Counseling Services staff, as well as faculty advisors, is available year round to guide students regarding prerequisites, course transferability, career choices, and many other aspects that concern student development.

Registration

View the Academic Calendar for the detailed registration schedule.
Registration begins October 26, 2009.

Students may register for courses over the telephone by calling (979) 821-0466 or
online using BORIS at https://boris.blinn.edu/

Student Load And Excess Hours

The regular course load of a student is five academic courses exclusive of band, chorus, physical education, and/or other one-hour courses. Students must get approval from the appropriate Dean, Director, or Vice President, prior to enrolling in 6 or more academic courses each long semester (more than 18 hours) or 3 or more academic courses each summer session (more than 9 hours). A student may take only one course during the minimester.

If you plan to take 18 hours in the Spring 2010 semester and 3 hours in the
Winter 2009 Minimester and would like to register for both semesters on the same day, please contact the appropriate office below.

  • Bryan students contact the Dean of Academic Affairs-Bryan (979) 209-7300.

  • Brenham students contact the office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs in Brenham (979) 830-4130.
