Program frequently asked questions/answers

1 Does the Vet Tech Program count towards Vet School?
A: Our program courses do not count or transfer to A&M or the Vet School because we are a technical program in the Health Sciences department. However, they do transfer to Tarleton State University. See Question #2 below.

2 Can you transfer the A.A.S. credits to another college and get a B.S.
A: Yes, Tarleton State University offers a B.A.S in Veterinary Technology. http://www.tarleton.edu/degrees/bachelors/bas-veterinary-technology/

3 What is your memorandum agreement with the Vet School?
A: Our veterinary technology program has a memorandum agreement with the vet school that allows us to access the vet schools resources, faculty, and facilities. Our students get to participate in the exact same labs as our vet students. We are the only veterinary technology program in the state of Texas with this opportunity.

4 When and where are information sessions?
A: We usually hold at least one information session a month at Blinn’s Post Office Campus, but online sessions are also available. Please visit the informational meetings tab on our website to sign up for a session or watch it online.

5 Is the Vet Tech Program also in Brenham?
A: Our program is not in Brenham. Only in Bryan.

6 Does the Bryan Campus have on-campus housing?
A: The Bryan Campus does not have on-campus housing, but we do have an apartment complex within walking distance of the Bryan main campus. http://www.livecollegeedge.com/
For a complete list of housing in the B/CS area, contact brooke.merta@blinn.edu

7 Can I take the program pre-requisites the Summer before classes start?
A: Unfortunately you may not because we use the grades from your pre-requisites to evaluate your application. The latest the program prerequisites can be taken is the Spring your application is made.

8 Can I take the program co-requisites while waiting to apply?
A: Yes you can. Feel free to meet with our Health Sciences Facilitator if you have any advising questions. http://www.blinn.edu/twe/facilitator_hs/

9 What are your program co-requisites?
A: BIOL 2420 (Microbiology), SPCH 1318 (Interpersonal Communication), and PHIL 2306 (Introduction to Ethics).

10 What is the cost of our program?
A: Tuition and fees for our two year associates program are around $10,500. Other associated costs may include: books, uniforms, supplies, and travel.

11 What is the difference between animal and veterinary experience?
A: One of our program requirements is a min of 40 hrs supervised veterinary clinical experience. This experience may be with a veterinarian or LVT, but it has to be specifically shadowing, volunteering, or working directly with that person(s).

Animal experience is any animal related experience you may get through FFA, volunteering at an animal shelter, or breeding animals to name a few. You also get credit for owning pets.

12 Do high school AP classes transfer for some of the pre-requisites?
A: If an applicant CLEP’s out of an AP class, it is that person’s responsibility to submit those scores to Blinn College. If Blinn accepts the transfer, the Vet Tech dept. will follow the ACE Credit Recommendations to confirm that the credit-granting score was equivalent to a “C” or better. https://clep.collegeboard.org/develop/ace-credit

13 Do courses taken at another college transfer to Blinn?
A: Please see Blinn’s equivalency matrix to see if and how your course(s) will transfer to Blinn. http://www.blinn.edu/testing/Transfer_Equivalency_Matrix.pdf
You may need to call Blinn’s admissions office if your course or college is not on the matrix. Feel free to also email our Health Sciences Facilitator with any other questions. http://www.blinn.edu/twe/facilitator_hs/
