The EMS Professions Associate of Applied Science Degree,
Paramedic Certificate, and Intermediate Certificate include knowledge,
skills and attitudes necessary to recognize, assess, and manage medical
emergencies under the supervision and direction of a physician. Graduates
can expect career opportunities predominantly with transfer and emergency
ambulance services. Students completing coursework in these programs
are eligible to take the Texas certification or licensing exams and/or
the National Registry exam.
Blinn College is a leader among Emergency Medical Services educational
institutions. The EMSP program, accredited by the Commission of Accreditation
of Allied Health Education Programs, is intended for students who
wish to receive a high quality education experience and desire to
dedicate themselves to careers in emergency medical services. Blinn
College provides the educational and clinical background necessary
to become eligible for certification/licensure at the EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate
and Paramedic levels.
Paramedics are highly recruited in Texas, with an average of 2,800
openings per year and a growth rate that exceeds the state average.
Annual starting salaries for certified EMTs range from $26,000 to
$39,000. EMT-Intermediates salaries range from $28,000 to $36,000
and Parmedic salaries range from $34,000 to $50,000.
Certification/licensure is not automatic; the Texas Department of
State Health Services (DSHS) and/or the National Registry of Emergency
Medical Technicians (NREMT) administers all certification examinations
upon completion of a DSHS recognized educational program. Completion
of the Blinn College EMSP program does not guarantee eligibility for
DSHS/NREMT certification/licensure. Criminal background checks are
conducted by DSHS as part of the screening process. Candidates with
concerns about their background should contact the Texas Department
of State Health Services in Austin.
The Blinn College Office of Financial Aid offers various forms of
financial assistance. Contact the Office of Financial Aid for more
details and to apply for financial assistance and scholarship opportunities.
The priority filing date for financial aid is April 1, proceeding
each fall semester. For more details call 979-209-7284
The three levels of educational programs offered at Blinn
College include an Associate of Applied Science degree, a Paramedic
Certificate, and an Intermediate Certificate and a EMT-Basic Marketable
Skills Achievement Certificate.
