Nursing Student Retention Program Associate Degree Nursing programs graduate 60% of entry level Registered Nurses in the United States. However, many more students could be retained and graduate from nursing programs if recruitment efforts were increased and barriers to educational success were removed. Operation REACH ( Recruitment and Educational Assistance to Increase Community Health Nursing Students), initially funded by 2001-2003 and 2003-2005 NIGP grants, recruits individuals into the Blinn College Associate Degree Nursing program and seeks to remove many barriers to student success. The REACH Coordinator gives workshops on study strategies and test- taking techniques, provides 1:1 guidance to develop study skills, arranges for tutoring, and makes referrals for personal and financial assistance when needed.
