Beta Tau (Drill Team)

Constitution

ARTICLE I. NAME
The name of this organization shall be the Blinn College Dance Team Club (Beta Tau).

ARTICLE II. PURPOSE
The purpose of the Dance Team shall be to give students of Blinn College the opportunity to:

A. Participate in a dance drill team organization at football and basketball games.

B. Represent Blinn at various special events.

C. To encourage discipline, high morals, and responsibility among its members.

ARTICLE III. MEMBERS

A. Dance Team shall consist of twenty seven (27) members

B. To be eligible to be on the team, the candidate must be enrolled at Blinn College in Brenham for the full year he/she will serve. Each candidate must be enrolled in a minimum of twelve credit hours per semester, must have at least a 1.75 GPA second semester, must have at least a 2.0 GPA and have passed a cumulative of twenty four semester hours.

C. Every member must abide by all the rules specified in this constitution and the scholarship agreement form.

D. Tryouts will be held in April. All candidates perform a 2-3 minute solo and a short jazz routine and high kick combinations taught by the Dance Team officers. Tryouts will be closed. Selection of the team members will be chosen by the director and an out of town judge.

ARTICLE IV. OFFICERS

A. The number of officers are determined year to year by the director.

B. Each officer will receive a full scholarship.

C. Specific rules and responsibilities required of an officer will be given to each candidate before tryouts.

D. The officers will help enforce rules and regulations outlined in this constitution and the captain will keep the point system updated in conjunction with the director.

ARTICLE V.

SECTION I. REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBLITIES

A. Must attend all football and basketball games where the team is required to perform.

B. Must attend all practices and functions (work, studying, etc. are not valid excuses for missing required activities. Illness is a legitimate excuse if presented by a phone call to the director or captain).

C. Be able to serve in any capacity of the team upon request

D. It is MANDATORY that every member attend summer camp, regardless of previous plans for the summer (example: job, vacation.) This camp will be the two weeks before school starts.

E. During the football season, if a member is absent from one practice within one week, she/he is removed from that performance.

F. Must enroll in the following courses each semester to receive credit as a member of the Dance Team. Drill Team KINE 1101 and Conditioning KINE 1101

G. All members will help in fundraising activities.

H. Each member is responsible for taking proper care of uniform and all other itmes that are issued to her/him. Each item must be turned in by the date specified by the director. If any article is ruined in any way, the member may be required to pay for it.

I. Items that each member is required to purchase herself/himself: White jazz boots, black capezio high top sneakers, and royal blue leotard, and black lycra ankle pants.

SECTION II. EXPENSES

A. Each member will pay for their field tights ($9.00 each) and carrying bag (Est. $20.00).

ARTICLE VI. DISCIPLINE

SECTION I.

A. All members shall be disciplined by the Director in accordance with this constitution.

SECTION II.

A. A point system will be listed for specific disciplinary actions (Article IX).

SECTION III.

A. A member may be removed from the team and lose scholarship for the following reasons:

1. Smokes, swears, or partakes in alcholic beverages or illegal substanced while representing the school in practice, travel, or uniform. Alcohol and drugs are prohibited at any time prior to a game.

2. Maintaining insufficient points.

3. Not following rules and regulations of the constitution, scholarship agreement, contract agreement, or Blinn College Student Handbook.

SECTION IV.

A. A member may be suspended from the team if the Director feels the offense or behavior is extreme. During suspension, the member will be required to attend all practices but will not be able to perform. The length of suspension will be determined by the Director.

SECTION V.

A. Any appeals shall be made to the Dean of Student Affairs.

ARTICLE VII. PERSONAL APPEARANCE

A. No jewelry of any kind will be allowed during any practice or game.

B. No fingernail polish during any performance.

C. Always look nice in the community while in uniform or any type of clothing that represents the Dance Team

D. No gum during practice or while in uniform.

E. Each member will determine their proper weight at the summer camp and stay within five pounds of that weight the rest of the year. If weight becomes an issure, a member may be pulled from certain performances.

F. No eating while in uniform at the football games.

ARTICLE VIII. GRADING

A. All Freshman are required to perform solo at the end of the Fall and Spring Semesters. Failure to do so will result in loss of points on your final grade.

ARTICLE IX. POINT SYSTEM AND CONSEQUENCES

SITUATION

A. Tardy to practice or schedule meeting -2 points

B. Tardy to game or special event -5 points (1st 5 mins) -10 (over 5 mins)

C, Tardy for second half of game -2 points

D. Unexcused absence from practice -10 points

(to be excused must be reported to Director or Captain PRIOR to practice

E. Absence from game or special event (except for illness or personal emergency reported to and/or cleared with Director prior to practice) - 10 points

F. Leaving practice early - 5 points

G. Violating personal appearance rules -5 points

H. Improper attitude at the required activity - 5 points

I. Not following the Director or Officers instructions (example talking while at attention, not paying attention for standard routines) - 5 points

J. Not meeting deadlines set by Director -5 points

K. Disrespectful to Director -20 points

L. Freshman not performing required solo at the end of each semester -30 points

* Each member begins with 100 points. Points are deducted for situations outlined above. When a member's points reach 70, she/he will be suspended. If points reach below a 60, she/he may be dismissed from the team. Points held at the end of each semester become that semester's grade. Each semester begins with 100 points.

* In addition to points taken off, the member will be required to do 100 high kicks.

ARTICLE X. THIS CONSTITUTION SERVES AS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR THE BLINN COLLEGE DANCE TEAM. CHANGES MAY BE MADE BY THE DIRECTOR PRIOR TO EACH SEMESTER.
