Officer Information
So you want to be an officer? The Alpha Phi Lambda chapter of Phi Theta Kappa normally fills officer positions at the end of each Spring semester, but we also fill slots if vacancies occur. Our Hallmark Officers (the president and vice presidents of scholarship, leadership, and service) are most responsible for the organizations activities. Our operational officers take charge of the various projects we are engaged in, and represent the chapter. To be an officer, we have a few requirements to meet:
Attend all planning meetings.
Attend regularly scheduled Friday meetings (1:00pm on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month). If you are co-enrolled in classes at A&M, and that class conflicts with this time, you will need to resign your position. The same is true if you are scheduled to work during this time, or if you have a special lab class at Blinn. All hallmark officers are expected to be at all of the regular meetings.
Maintain a 3.25 gpa and be enrolled in at least 3 hours of classes on the Bryan campus each Fall and Spring semester while you are an officer--distance learning courses do not count. Visibility on campus is vital to the chapter's success
Actively participate in the programs planned and implemented by our chapter, including:
Service projects
Satellite seminars
Planning programs/speakers/projects
Fundraising
Participate in the operation of the Induction ceremonies.
Go on the chapter trips (International Summer Honors Institute and Texas Summer Honors Institute (Hallmark Officers and others as appropriate); Texas Leadership Conference (Fall); District V Meeting (Fall); Texas Regional Convention (Spring); and the International Convention (Spring).
Visit with each advisor at least once a week during the regular semesters.
Talk to Nancy, Randy, and Drew ASAP if your situation changes and you can no longer fulfill your duties.
Be happy! Nobody likes a grouch
We have a number of office to fill each year. These include:
Note: The offices of President and Vice President of Scholarship, Leadership, and Service are Hallmark Offices. As such, these are key offices. Hallmark officers must be enrolled as students at Blinn College, with a minimum 6cr load, and not be co-enrolled at A&M during the Fall and Spring semesters. If you hold one of these offices, you can not be enrolled in Friday afternoon classes, or scheduled to work on Fridays during our meetings. If you must enroll in a class at that time, or you must work during that time, then you will be required to resign from office. No exceptions.
To apply, complete the STAR Scholarship Application Package, and submit the completed application to one off the advisors. We will make the necessary copies for our review, and also submit your application for a STAR Scholarship.
