Counseling
Blinn College provides a wide range of resources that will help you plan and make decisions in all phases of your academic, career and personal development. Professional counselors and advisors can help you design your educational program, define a career path, determine transferability of courses and confront obstacles to academic success. Assistance is provided in the following areas:
• Academic Advising – to examine appropriate course selection, educational planning, transferability of courses and need for study skill development
• Career Counseling – to define vocational goals, career directions, occupational information and self appraisals of interests and abilities
• Confidential Personal Counseling – to make adjustments and life decisions regarding personal issues that may impact academic success
• Referral Resources – to provide assistance with concerns such as financial aid, tutoring, disability services, alcohol/drug abuse or psychological problems
• Testing Services – to meet assessment guidelines as outlined in the ACT, GED, SAT and THEA test programs
The following populations of students are required to be advised each semester prior to registration:
• Students enrolling at Blinn College for the first time*
• Students who fail any part of the THEA test or alternative placement test
• Students who are on scholastic probation
* exception:
• Students who are co-enrolled at a senior institution which provides appropriate approval
• Students who have passed all sections of the THEA or alternative placement test, or who are THEA exempt. This group of students must sign a self-advising waiver form available on our Web site.

Orientation days are provided in the summer on the Brenham campus for incoming students. Students will get the opportunity to learn more about financial aid and housing.
