CSI: Blinn, Community Scene Investigation

Research has shown that most students drop out between their 6th and 8th week of college. Our hope for Community Orientation Day is that by better acquainting our students with local businesses, students will feel that they are a part of the community and not just visitors. By making the students feel welcome, we feel we can help them overcome anxiety and deter some of them from dropping out.

The Blinn College Recruiting Office hosts a Community Orientation Day during the first weeks of the fall semester to better acquaint students with businesses in their new community. Community Orientation Day is also an opportunity for businesses to show our students what the area has to offer them. Participating businesses are encouraged to set up displays and creatively promote products, services and employment opportunities. Displays will be set up along walkways outside our Student Center.

This year's program CSI: Blinn, Community Scene Investigation, was a huge success on both our Brenham and Bryan campuses with nearly 75 businesses participating. There were businesses affecting all aspects of student life including restaurants, tanning salons, banks, fitness centers, clothing stores and more. Students were given information, samples of goods, coupons for services as well as job and volunteer applications.

Businesses wishing to participate in future CSI Days may email their contact information to recruiting@blinn.edu. There is a $25 registration fee for all participating businesses. Space is limited, so reservations will be on a first come, first serve basis.
