Sample Course Description

HIST 1301 United States History I

A survey of United States History that begins with the migration of people to the western hemisphere and continues through the Civil War and Reconstruction Period. The course focuses on the periods of discovery, colonization, revolution, and nation building. Material presented covers a wide variety of topics encompassing social, cultural, intellectual, military, and political history. Prerequisites: Appropriate score on the THEA Test (or other state-approved assessment) or completion of READ 0306 with a grade of "C" or better. Credit: Three semester hours.

Core Curriculum

  • 42 credit hours
  • Transfers to Texas public colleges or universities
  • Must maintain a “C” average

Associate of Arts Degree (A.A.)

  • 63 - 65 required credit hours
  • Transferable
  • Includes 42-hour core curriculum
  • Any major offered by Blinn College may be selected however, traditional areas of concentration are: Communications, Criminal Justice, English, Foreign Language, Geography, History, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, and Speech/Theatre Arts, Teaching.

Associate of Science Degree (A.S.)

  • 63 - 65 required semester hours
  • Transferable
  • Includes 42-hour core curriculum
  • Any major offered by Blinn College may be selected however, traditional areas of concentration are: Agriculture, Biology, Business/Accounting, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Health & Kinesiology, and Mathematics.

Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.)

  • 59 - 72 required credit hours (based on degree concentration)
  • Geared for immediate entry into the workforce
  • Limited transferability
  • Certificate options available
