Washington County Abstract has funded its first endowed scholarship to the Blinn College Foundation.

Washington County Abstract, a Texan Title Holdings company, gifted $15,000 to the Foundation to fund an annual scholarship going to a student from the Washington County area.

“We’re happy to donate to such a wonderful cause,” said Patrick Doyle, owner of Texan Title Holdings. “Washington County Abstract is about giving back to the community, and this is the best way to do it for these kids. Hopefully they can excel and get ahead in life by going to school and continuing their education. As a partner in the community, it’s a way to give back.”

For the Blinn College Foundation, which oversees almost 300 endowed scholarships, donors like Washington County Abstract are the lifeblood of the organization, said Sam Sommer, Foundation Board Chair.

“Since the Foundation was formed in 1991, it has been able to help thousands of students who want to attend Blinn College,” Sommer said. “That is because of the generous support of organizations, businesses and individuals who believe in the College and have funded so many scholarships through the years. We’re grateful to all of our donors who have been so generous during the Foundation’s 30-year history.”

Blinn College Foundation endowed scholarships are available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors, and experiences. The tax-exempt organization also provides financial support for programs and activities that enhance the quality of education for Blinn students and expand educational opportunities. The Foundation also looks to heighten community awareness of the mission and accomplishments of the College and to promote excellence in education.
