Billy McGuigan's 'Rave On!' kicks off Blinn's 2019-20 Performing Arts Series season
One year after channeling the Beatles, McGuigan is back with a one-of-a-kind Buddy Holly experience
October 17, 2019
Almost exactly one year after selling out the Blinn College District’s Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center with a show featuring the Beatles’ biggest hits, Billy McGuigan is back in Brenham for another rock ‘n roll showcase.
This time, McGuigan will bring Buddy Holly’s one-of-a-kind energy to the O’Donnell Center stage with “Rave On! The Buddy Holly Experience” at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.
“Rave On” reinvents the ordinary tribute show with an electrifying, high-energy, rock n’ roll extravaganza featuring McGuigan as America’s premiere Buddy Holly interpreter. In this tour de force, audiences experience all the thrills of a Buddy Holly concert reimagined, including hits such as “Peggy Sue,” Raining in My Heart,” “It’s So Easy,” “That’ll Be the Day,” “True Love Ways,” “Oh Boy,” and, of course, “Rave On.”
In a unique twist, McGuigan’s Buddy Holly celebrates the birth of an era and pays homage to fellow rockers Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper.
“Audiences who enjoyed ‘Yesterday and Today’ will love seeing Billy McGuigan back in the O’Donnell Center,” said Kevin Patrick, Technical Theatre Director. “His talent, stage presence, and charisma make this a can’t-miss show.”
“Rave On!” kicks off Blinn’s fifth Performing Arts Series season, which brings national and international performers to local audiences. On Sunday, Dec. 8, Blinn will celebrate the holiday season with Riders in the Sky’s “Christmas the Cowboy Way” at 4 p.m. On Friday, Jan. 31, Blinn welcomes the Broadway musical “Finding Neverland” at 7 p.m., and the season concludes Tuesday, March 17, with a 7 p.m. performance by the Young Irelanders, who return to the O’Donnell Center after launching the Performing Arts Series in 2015.
Season and individual show tickets are available at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice. Season tickets are $125, and new season ticket purchasers can upgrade to premier season tickets, which include entry to the pre-show receptions, for an additional $40.
Individual show tickets are $35, with discount $15 tickets available for children ages 10 and under. Blinn employees and groups of 10 or more can purchase discounted $30 tickets and student rush tickets are $10. Single reception tickets will be available up to five days prior to the show for $20.
