Blinn College names new Executive Dean for the Brenham Campus

Dr. John Turner will oversee Brenham Campus recruitment and community engagement

February 22, 2018

Blinn College has named Dr. John Turner, a veteran administrator with 26 years of management experience, including 14 in higher education, its new Executive Dean for the Brenham Campus.

As Executive Dean, Turner will provide administrative direction and coordination for the Brenham Campus, and will lead the campus’s recruitment and community engagement.

“I am honored and extremely excited to have been chosen to serve in this role for the Brenham campus of Blinn College,” Turner said. “I am a true believer in the community college mission of providing access and superior service to students, while ensuring that we continue to build an educated citizenry.”

Turner comes to Blinn from Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC) in Monroe, La., where he was Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs. In that role, he served as a senior administrative officer and as the chief academic and student affairs officer, providing oversight for the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, the Office of Sponsored Programs, and direct oversight of seven satellite campuses and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center.

While Turner oversaw LDCC’s enrollment management, he eliminated barriers to student entry, managed enrollment communications and utilized targeted recruitment strategies that resulted in a 5 percent increase in student headcount between Fall 2016 and Fall 2017, and increased Fall-to-Spring semester retention.

Turner previously served as LDCC’s Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, where he oversaw enrollment management, financial aid, admissions, commencement, outreach and recruitment, new student orientation, state reporting and records, student life, student government, disabilities services, career and placement services, testing and assessment services, dual enrollment programming, and veterans affairs.

Turner holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a double major in marketing management and organizational communications/public relations. He holds a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Louisville and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from Texas Tech University.

The Blinn-Brenham Campus houses 1,326 students, more than any other community college in the State of Texas. Construction currently is underway on a new student housing complex, funded through a public-private partnership, that will house an additional 464 students. That facility is scheduled to be complete in time for the Fall 2018 semester.

The Brenham Campus is home to Blinn’s renowned music, theatre, agricultural science, and athletic programs, and features vibrant student life programs that offer students the opportunity to explore, learn, and develop outside the classroom. For more information, visit www.blinn.edu.
