New board members will serve unexpired terms through May 2021

December 11, 2018

The Rev. Randy Wells and Dan Gatewood were sworn in as new members of the Blinn College District Board of Trustees during the board’s regular meeting Tuesday.

Randy Wells

Wells will represent Precinct 1. He fills the seat previously occupied by Richard Powell, who passed away in October after three years of service to the College District and its students. Gatewood will serve as Blinn’s Precinct 4 representative in place of Trustee Stacy Aschenbeck, who resigned to spend more time with family after three years on the board. The newly appointed trustees will serve the unexpired terms that conclude in May 2021.

Wells is Executive Director of Faith Mission, where his responsibilities include oversight of all programs and clinical services and supervision of program staff and university/college interns. He serves as administrator of the Washington County Health and Service Center, provides leadership for Brenham ISD’s SMART Kids program, is president of the Washington County Ministerial Association, and serves on several local boards. Wells holds a master’s degree in social work from Southern University at New Orleans.

Wells and his wife Nelda have two children and are active members at their church, St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Dan Gatewood

A 37-year veteran of the oil and gas industry, Gatewood served as a military policeman, infantry squad leader, and platoon sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1976-1982, where he led training and peacekeeping missions in the Western Pacific, Middle East, and Asia regions. From 2001-2016, he served in the Texas State Guard, including roles as a senior adviser to the Texas Maritime Regiment commander and as Texas State Director for the Military Emergency Management Specialist Academy.

Gatewood is a member of the Institute for Supply Management Certification Committee and the Supply Chain Management Association, and previously served as Chair of the National Association of Purchasing Management Oklahoma City Professional Education Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Science in information and decision sciences from Cameron University and a Master of Science in energy management from Oklahoma City University.

Prior to the swearing-in ceremonies for Gatewood and Wells, Blinn recognized former Trustee Aschenbeck with the presentation of a plaque and bouquet in appreciation of her service to the Blinn College District and its students.
