Blinn College District alumnus and former professor Dr. Wilfred Dietrich has donated $30,000 to the Blinn College Foundation to establish two endowed scholarships in honor of his siblings, Blinn graduates Nevi Lee Dietrich Lauter and Raymond Dietrich.
The two $15,000 scholarships recently were gifted as a part of Lauter and Dietrich’s 90th and 87th birthday celebrations, respectively.
“I am proud of Blinn College because it was a place that my siblings and I graduated from and where I taught for many years,” Wilfred Dietrich said. “I have stayed in touch with many of my students and want to see more Blinn students succeed.”
Wilfred Dietrich, Raymond Dietrich, and Lauter all earned their Associate of Arts degrees from Blinn.
“We are thankful for alumni like Dr. Wilfred Dietrich, Raymond Dietrich, and Nevi Lee Dietrich Lauter who continue to show their appreciation for the education they received by giving back to current and future students,” said Sam Sommer, Blinn Foundation Chair.
Wilfred Dietrich spent 42 years at Blinn College as a professor and department chair and was named to Blinn’s Hall of Honor in 2004. Lauter taught for 40 years in the Nelsonville, Deer Park, and Brenham Independent School Districts, while Raymond Dietrich spent his career as a police officer.
The Nevi Lee Dietrich Lauter Endowed Scholarship will be available to education students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
“It is important for a person to have an education, and I want to see Blinn students graduate and find careers that make them happy,” Lauter said.
The Virginia and Raymond Dietrich scholarship will be available to nursing and criminal justice students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
“I am really happy that my brother established a scholarship in my honor,” Raymond Dietrich said. “We all went to Blinn because it was close to our home and was a good place to start our education. I want to see others advance their lives at Blinn.”
Wilfred Dietrich and his wife, Bobbie, established the W.O. and Bobbie Dietrich Scholarship in 1995. That scholarship is available to students majoring in speech, drama, technical writing, or English.
