Registration available Monday, Dec. 3, in Brenham and Thursday, Dec. 6, at Workforce Solutions in Hearne
November 30, 2018
The Blinn College District will host registration sessions in Brenham and Hearne for adult students interested in enrolling in free English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) and high school equivalency (HSE) courses.
Registration for HSE and ESL courses will be available at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at St. Mary’s Church (701 Church St.) in Brenham, and at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Workforce Solutions office located at 303 Post Oak Street in Hearne.
Both the ESL and HSE courses are free of charge, and are offered during days and evenings.
“These courses are designed to prepare students for college or a career,” said Allen Thomas, Director of Adult Education and Literacy. “Adult Education prepares students to enter the workforce or higher education so that we can improve our local economy and help local residents find rewarding career paths.”
Blinn Adult Education and Literacy offers basic, intermediate, and advanced ESL courses that ultimately prepare students for a career, to complete their HSE, or to enroll in classes taught in English. Students who enter the program can range from those who speak no English to those prepared for advanced courses.
The high school equivalency courses cover the four main areas of HSE preparation: reading and language, social studies, science, and mathematics. Students seeking to prepare for the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) also can enroll in the course in advance of taking or re-taking the test.
