Blinn Music Program kicks off the holidays with ‘Sounds of the Season’ at Festival Hill
Saturday, Dec. 1, performance will feature John Rutter’s ‘The Gift of Life’
November 14, 2018
The Blinn College District’s Choirs and Wind Symphony will bring the spirit of the season to life Saturday, Dec. 1, when they perform at Round Top’s Festival Hill Concert Hall.
Titled “Sounds of the Season,” this special performance takes place at 3 p.m. and will feature Blinn vocal and instrumental students and music faculty under the direction of Dr. Sarah Burke and Dr. Paulo Gomes.
The six movements of John Rutter’s “The Gift of Life” will highlight the afternoon. The piece reflects various aspects of the wonders of creation and life itself, offering a kaleidoscope of colors and moods ranging from the prayerful and contemplative to the magnificent and inspirational. Blinn students and faculty will invite the audience to join them in raising their voices to celebrate the season at the conclusion of the concert.
The performance gives local music lovers and students from area high school choirs and bands the opportunity to enjoy Blinn’s student performers in one of the most beautiful concert halls in the nation. The Festival Hill Institute’s Festival Concert Hall opened for performances in 1983 and stands as a unique site in the classical music world. The 1,000-seat concert hall’s beauty is surpassed only by its exceptional acoustics, which have earned international acclaim.
Tickets are $10, and are available at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice.
The Blinn Music Department offers small classes, one-on-one attention, practical learning, and easily accessible faculty so that students are actively engaged in a superior learning environment. For more information, visit www.blinn.edu/music.
