Britney Hibbeler, Mike McHugh, and Kevin Patrick will assist in establishing curricula for academic programs in Texas
October 8, 2018
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) recently appointed three Blinn College District faculty members to its state-wide field of study advisory committees.
Blinn Speech Professor Britney Hibbeler, Computer Science Instructor Mike McHugh, and Technical Theatre Professor Kevin Patrick will collaborate with faculty from across the state to establish curricula that allow for the seamless transfer of credits to academic programs at four-year universities.
Each of the THECB’s 30 field of study advisory committees consist of 24 members equally drawn from two-year and four-year public institutions. The committees periodically review existing field of studies to ensure alignment with advances in the discipline, student interests, and workforce needs.
Hibbeler, Blinn’s Communication Studies Department Head, was appointed to the Communications Field of Study Advisory Committee. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in communication from Texas A&M University.
Hibbeler has served as a member on the TEDxBlinnCollege Planning Committee and co-founded “Speak Up, Speak Out,” an annual public speaking contest hosted by Blinn.
Blinn’s Computer Science Department Head since 2017, McHugh was selected to serve on the Computer Science/Information Technology Field of Study Advisory Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Science in engineering and industrial management from Texas A&M University, a Master of Business Administration in operations research from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and a Master of Science in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Patrick, a Blinn faculty member since 2005, was appointed to the Performing Arts/Drama Field of Study Advisory Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in theatre from Southwestern University and a Master of Fine Arts in theatre scenography from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
In addition to teaching, Patrick oversees the technical needs for the Blinn-Brenham Theatre Arts productions. He serves as the Chair-Elect for the Texas Educational Theatre Association Higher Education Committee and is a sponsor for the U.S. Institute of Technical Theatre. He also frequently takes students to technical theatre symposiums, conferences, tours and professional dramatic productions throughout the state.
