The Blinn College District and Texas A&M Extension Service (TEEX) have space available in their upcoming HVAC Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program beginning Monday, Oct. 15, at the RELLIS Campus in Bryan.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Texas ranks third in the nation with 23,520 jobs in the HVAC industry, and has an annual median pay of $21.83 per hour and $45,410 per year. Last year, the Brazos Valley/Gulf Coast region saw 330 new HVAC technician jobs created, while the number of HVAC technician jobs increased by 1,340 state-wide.

The HVAC Pre-Apprenticeship Camp is an accelerated, competency-based camp that includes instruction in English and Spanish. Scholarships may be available through Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley; to see if you qualify, call 979-595-2800 and schedule an appointment with a Workforce Solutions counselor.

Students who successfully complete the 144-hour pre-apprenticeship training camp earn the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification, the OSHA 10-Hour Construction Certificate, and certificates from the Blinn College District and TEEX. The NCCER certification is nationally recognized, qualifying students for jobs across the nation.

“In an ever-changing industry, the demand for reliable and qualified technicians are of extreme importance,” said Joshua Mosqueda, Vice President of Mosqueda Cooling & Heating. “Each year, the demand for qualified candidates increases as the area and economy grow.”

The HVAC Pre-Apprenticeship Camp provides a broad introduction to the world of the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) technician. Students learn basic operational principles of HVAC systems, and are introduced to technician licensing and trade-governing regulations. The course also includes instruction in trade math, air distribution systems, piping practices, and soldering and brazing.
