Blinn-Schulenburg Lunch and Learn event will show local businesses how to apply for grants that fund customized employee training programs

Blinn’s Division of Technical and Community Education partners with companies to apply for Texas Workforce Commission grants

June 28, 2018

The Blinn College District Division of Technical and Community Education will host a Lunch and Learn event at the Blinn-Schulenburg Campus on Thursday, Aug. 9, to show business owners how they can obtain state-funded employee training opportunities. The meeting will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 120.

Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) representatives will join Blinn staff to share ideas on utilizing TWC grants to ensure employees have the latest safety and skills training.

"We want to educate the public on the skills training opportunities that can improve efficiencies and productivity for their organization," said Jay Anderson, Dean of Technical and Community Programs. "TWC grants afford an opportunity for the organization to deliver this training to currently employed individuals or newly hired individuals, so it is a phenomenal opportunity for companies to learn about."

The discussion will include more information on Skills for Small Business (SSB) grants and Skills Development Fund (SDF) grants.

This will be the first time this event is hosted at this campus and it will be especially beneficial to small business owners or those looking to be small business owners,” said Becky Garlick, Executive Dean, Schulenburg Campus. “The goal is to help local businesses get state money for training and equipment. Blinn can step in and help companies write these grants to obtain that funding.”

Attendees also will have an opportunity to learn more about Blinn’s Technical and Community Education programs.

It is a fantastic event, and many organizations within the Blinn District have participated in both SSB and SDF grants,” Anderson said. “The feedback is always very positive about skill sets that have been delivered and how it helps the organization."
