Blinn College Alumni and Friends Association and the Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen Association raised more than $60,000 for academic scholarships and athletic equipment during the College’s fourth annual Clay Shootout Friday.

Blinn’s largest fundraiser of the year attracted a record 72 teams – consisting of 288 individuals – to the Boswell Porter 4-H Shotgun Range in Caldwell. Approximately 200 student and employee volunteers from Blinn’s Brenham, Bryan, Sealy, and Schulenburg campuses helped the event run seamlessly.

“We could not have raised these funds for Blinn students without the support of the College and the community,” said Dr. Kyle Merten, Director of Resource Development and Alumni Relations. “We are very fortunate to experience a tremendous amount of growth with each passing year. The Alumni and Friends Association, the Alumni Lettermen Association, and all our volunteers were crucial to making this an event to be proud of.”

The team of Jackie Baumann, Justin Hejl, Allen Joiner, and Rusty Schrader, sponsored by Walcik Construction, won the competition with a score of 353. Baumann was the top male shooter of the shootout, Katlyn Lenderman was the top female shooter, and Brendan Bligh was the top youth shooter.

The team of Bligh, Kyle Davidson, Lenderman, and Randy Wall finished second with 331 points, and the team of John Anderson, Lawton Bean, Kyle Davison, and Tyler Davison finished third with a score of 321.

“I want to thank our sponsors and underwriters, Brenham National Bank, Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, Inc., and McCoy-Rockford,” Merten said. “We could not have done with it without their support.”
