Blinn info sessions offer gateway to high-demand, high-wage dental hygiene careers

Dental hygienists earn median salary of $72,910

Blinn College invites prospective students considering careers as dental hygienists to attend one of six upcoming information sessions regarding the College’s Dental Hygiene Program.

The two-year Dental Hygiene Program prepares students for careers as dental hygienists or transfer into a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year university. The program is equipped with a dental hygiene clinic and highly-qualified faculty who closely work with students in classroom and clinical settings.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, dental hygienists earn a median salary of $72,910, with 19 percent employment growth between 2014 and 2024. According to Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley, local demand for dental hygienists is expected to grow 23.1 percent between 2014 and 2024.

Information sessions will be held in Room CC- 7 of the Post Office Campus located at 301 Post Office St. in Bryan. All program applicants should attend an information session, which will inform prospective students of the program’s admissions criteria, application process, and the role of a registered dental hygienist.

These sessions will be held:

  • Monday, July 10, from 6-7 p.m.;
  • Wednesday, July 12, from noon-1 p.m.;
  • Monday, July 17, from noon-1 p.m.;
  • Tuesday, July 18, 6-7 p.m.;
  • Wednesday, July 26, from 6-7 p.m.;
  • and Friday, July 28, from 11 a.m.-noon.

Blinn’s Dental Hygiene Program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Upon successful completion of coursework, students receive an Associate of Applied Science degree and are eligible to take the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and a regional or state board clinical exam.

The Dental Hygiene Program is part of Blinn’s Division of Health Sciences, which offers associate degree nursing, dental hygiene, emergency medical services, fire science, physical therapist assistant, radiologic technology, surgical technology, and vocational nursing programs designed to train students for high-demand professions.
