Blinn College livestock judging team earns Mid-American Classic championship
Sophomore Jaci Burgin earns two first-place finishes for the sophomore division

The Blinn College livestock judging team returned from its season-opening weekend with top honors.
Blinn won the sophomore title in the Mid-American Classic Livestock Judging Contest Friday, Sept. 29, in Hutchinson, Kan., then captured second place in the freshman and sophomore divisions at the AKSARBEN Livestock Judging Contest Sunday, Oct. 1, in Grand Island, Neb.
Blinn’s sophomores were named the Mid-American Classic champions after the team claimed first place in the reasons and swine competitions. Jaci Burgin led the team with a first-place individual finish.
“Our sophomores are starting to hone in,” coach Brice Mund said. “They came up with a really big win at the Mid-American and did really well at AKSARBEN as well.”
Blinn’s freshman division placed fourth in the Mid-American Classic Livestock Judging Contest, as Ty Jordan led the freshmen with a first-place individual finish.
At the AKSARBEN Livestock Judging Contest, Burgin placed first in the sophomore division, while Graysen Gilbraith came in fifth, and Kylie Burgin placed 10th.
“Jaci Burgin winning both of those contests is awfully impressive,” Mund said.
Allie Burns placed first in the freshman division, while Seth Jordan placed fourth and Cade Radenbaugh placed ninth.
The Blinn livestock judging team will compete at the Tulsa State Fair Saturday, Oct. 7.
“We faced really good competition and our team paired up really well,” Mund said. “We are looking forward to seeing what they can do this week.”
Blinn has been named National Team of the Year four times in the last 10 years. Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program is one of the largest in the nation with almost 800 students enrolled – roughly four times the size of any other two-year agricultural program in the state. Blinn offers agriculture classes on all its campuses, with the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex serving as the program’s hub. In addition to its excellence in the classroom, Blinn offers extracurricular educational activities in the areas of livestock judging, agriculture club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, horticulture and agriculture sciences.
