Blinn College has been recognized as one of 2017’s most promising places to work in community colleges based upon findings from a study conducted by The Ohio State University’s Center for Higher Education Enterprise (CHEE).
The Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges Award recognizes community and technical colleges with exceptional commitments to diversity through best-in-class student and staff recruitment and retention practices, inclusive learning and working environments, and meaningful community service and engagement opportunities.
“Blinn College is proud that its campuses have been recognized as places where all individuals feel welcomed and valued,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, District President/CEO. “This truly is an award that recognizes the incredible spirit of Blinn’s faculty, staff, and students.”
Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges Award winners were selected via an international survey administered by CHEE, an interdisciplinary research and policy center that promotes the important role postsecondary education plays in global society, especially the vital roles and responsibilities of public higher education.
The study examined six “Promising Practices” at National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) member institutions, including a demonstrated commitment to student success, recognition of good work, intentional focus on meeting the needs of the local community and region, institutional support for continuous improvement and innovation, and institutional and practical support of work-life balance. It was commissioned by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education and NISOD, a membership organization committed to promoting and celebrating excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership at community and technical colleges.
Blinn was presented the award at the NISOD annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Austin.
