Blinn’s 2016-17 Performing Arts Series brings music, comedy, and even performing pets

Blinn College will bring acclaimed music, comedy, and even performing pets to the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center this year as part of its 2016-17 Performing Arts Series.

The series opens with a musical performance by The Texas Tenors at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, followed by “The Wonder Bread Years Starring Pat Hazell” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Blinn brings The World Famous Popovich Comedy Pet Theater to campus at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, and concludes the series with “Live from Nashville,” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 2. All shows will take place at the O’Donnell Center on the Blinn-Brenham campus (map).

Tickets can be purchased online at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice or by calling the Blinn Box Office at 979-830-4024. Seating is reserved for all performances.

Individual tickets are $30 for the public and $15 for children 10 and under. Blinn employees can purchase up to four tickets per performance for $20, and students can purchase one ticket per performance for $10. Groups of 10 or more receive a $4 discount per ticket when purchased together.

Season tickets for all four performances are $100, and include VIP receptions one hour prior to each performance. Each reception will be hosted in the MRW Studio Theatre in the O’Donnell Center. A light meal and drinks will be catered by Design II, and the performing artists will attend when available. Season ticket holders and individual ticket patrons can purchase additional tickets to the VIP reception for $20, pending availability.

A fresh and funny salute to Americana, “The Wonder Bread Years Starring Pat Hazell” is a fast-paced, hilarious one-man show that gracefully walks the line between standup and theatre. Audiences across the country have enjoyed a show that not only restores a much-needed sense of wonder, but leaves audiences laughing and savoring the past like never before. From sitting at the kids’ table to riding in the back of the Country Squire Wagon, The Wonder Bread Years is a comic bullseye for Baby Boomers everywhere.

Showtime once declared Hazell one of the five funniest people in America. He is one of the original writers for “Seinfeld,” a “Tonight Show” veteran, a critically acclaimed playwright and a contributing commentator to National Public Radio.

THE WORLD FAMOUS POPOVICH COMEDY PET THEATER

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16

The Popovich Comedy Pet Theater brings entertainment for the entire family, featuring the unique blend of comedy and juggling skills of former Moscow Circus veteran Gregory Popovich and the extraordinary talents of his performing pets. His entourage consists of world-class jugglers, Diamond the Shetland Pony, the German goat duo Kurt and Helga, and more than 30 performing pets, including house cats and dogs rescued from animal shelters, geese, white doves and parrots.

“Comedy Pet Theater is like a Cirque show with animals,” USA Today wrote.

The Popovich Comedy Pet Theater has presented thousands of shows in more than 20 countries, and is currently in its sixth season at the Plant Hollywood Resort/Casino in Las Vegas. Popovich’s 2014 independent film, “Popovich and the Voice of the Fabled American West,” recently won the Audience Choice Award at the 17th annual Dance with Films Festival in Los Angeles, and the show has been featured on Jay Leno, David Letterman, Animal Planet, CNN and NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”

“Live from Nashville” is a song and dance spectacular featuring the songs America’s beloved country artists have brought to life for decades, including classics from Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn and Taylor Swift.
