January 19, 2016

The Blinn College-Schulenburg campus is preparing for Spring 2016 by offering a variety of workforce education classes for the community.

Classes begin in January with the basic computer series, where students learn the basics of operating a computer, including the Microsoft Office suite. Courses are: Beginning Computers, Basic Keyboarding, Microsoft Word I and II, Microsoft Excel I, Microsoft PowerPoint, Resume & Job Search Skills and Microsoft OneNote. All computer classes are free of charge and open to the public.

Blinn’s certified nurse aide course begins in April, but those interested should inquire about the class early to ensure they complete all course prerequisites. Students need up-to-date shot records and must complete a background check and drug screen. Nurse aides are often employed in nursing care facilities where they serve as the principal caregivers. The lecture portion of the class is $550, while the hands-on clinical experience is $250.

Fundamentals of Shielded Metal Arc Welding begins Saturday, Jan. 30, and students do not need any previous welding experience to participate. The $500 class will run on Saturdays.

Electrician renewal courses will be held Feb. 25 and April 14 and cost $30. No date has been set for the $50 Certified Medication Aide Refresher course.

Scholarships are available for some students. For more information, contact Loraine Orellana at 979-743-5237 or lorellana@blinn.edu.
