The Blinn College band and percussion ensemble will close out the semester with two separate performances at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center (map) in Brenham.
Blinn’s percussion ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. The Blinn bands will showcase their talents at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4. The free concerts will mark the students’ final performances of the semester.
The percussion ensemble will feature world-renowned marimba artist She-e Wu as a special guest performer. Wu is an associate professor of music and the head of the percussion program at Northwestern (Ill.) University.
“It is not very often that a world-famous musician comes to Brenham,” said Dr. Sarah Burke, band director. “To have a musician of this caliber on our campus is a historic event.”
Wu will perform a solo piece with the Blinn percussion ensemble, then perform with directors Burke and Todd Quinlan. The percussion ensemble will perform a variety of musical selections.
Burke and Dr. Kendall Prinz will conduct the band performance on Dec. 4. The musical selections will be a mixture that includes traditional and non-traditional Christmas music selections.
The Blinn Music Department offers small classes, one-on-one attention, practical learning and a dedicated faculty so students are actively engaged in a superior learning environment. The department is part of Blinn’s Division of Visual/Performing Arts & Kinesiology, which offers programs in arts, architecture, communication studies, kinesiology, music and theatre arts.
