Libby Vincek was discovered by talent scouts while visiting the park with her family
Libby Vincek frequently brought smiles to visitors’ faces last spring as she guided tours of Blinn College’s historic Brenham campus.
This year, Vincek is again creating smiles at an iconic place where young peoples’ dreams come true – Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
Vincek came to Blinn from East Bernard High School and wasted no time getting involved in the Student Government Association, the Catholic Student Union, the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society and Wii Speak, a student speech club. She served Blinn as a student ambassador, guiding campus tours and answering questions from parents and prospective students, and was named Ms. Buccaneer as a sophomore in recognition of her leadership and character.
Upon receiving her associate’s degree in communications from Blinn, Vincek was accepted to Texas Christian University, where she majored in communication studies and minored in sports broadcasting.
On a visit to Disney World with her family, Vincek was spotted by a talent scout, who suggested she audition to become a performer there.
“I wasn’t sure if I was ready for it, but God gave me this opportunity and this huge chance to take,” Vincek said. “I knew if I passed up this one-in-a-lifetime opportunity I would look back on it with regret.”
Vincek discussed the opportunity with her parents, then flew to Florida for the audition in September. After three rounds of tryouts that included dancing, interviews and performing in costume, Vincek was selected for a full-time position.
Just two days after completing her Fall finals at TCU, Vincek moved to Florida to begin her new gig.
“That smile that you put on children’s faces, it’s beautiful,” Vincek said. “It’s a very rewarding job because you see the magic you make. I never would have thought I’d be here a year ago, but I know I’m here for a reason.”
Vincek typically works eight- to 10-hour days at the park, including an hour of hair and makeup preparation when she arrives. She spends her days greeting children and sharing the magic of Disney World.
“The best performers are very witty,” Vincek said. “You never know what a child might say when they first meet you, and making each child’s experience unique and unforgettable is important to me. It’s not just a job – it’s a chance to put a sparkle in a child’s eye.”
Vincek said her future plans include returning to TCU.
“I’ve been truly blessed to be here, but I also know I want the college experience,” Vincek said. “Being away this past year has made me realize how much I miss being in my home state. I am looking forward to going back to TCU to finish what I started at Blinn College.”
