Attendees can view results of Machat Music Facility’s recent expansion
Blinn College will host a special symphonic concert Sept. 18 to recognize those who have contributed to the College’s music department and the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility.
The 7:30 p.m. concert in Brenham will be held inside the Machat Music Facility. The Brazos Wind Symphony has been selected from members of the Blinn music faculty, the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra, Houston Symphonic Band, Houston Brass Band, ex-students and current members of the Buccaneer Band. It will be directed by Robert McElroy, founder of the Houston Symphonic band and a part-time Blinn faculty member.
In 2011, Blinn completed a $1.5 million construction project to add 9,515 square feet of classrooms, labs, rehearsal halls, practice rooms and storage space to the band hall.
The appreciation concert, which is open to the public, will allow patrons to view the completed project.
“This concert will allow us to celebrate the patrons and contributors who have made the Blinn College music department and the Machat Music Facility such tremendous successes,” said Fine Arts Division Chair Larry Campbell. “We cannot think of a better way to thank our benefactors than through the gift of music in the facility whose expansion they made possible.”
The Machat Music Facility is located at the corner of Blinn Boulevard and College Avenue (map). Admission is free.
