Purchase expected to save College $34,000 annually in bus rental costs
The Blinn College Board of Trustees approved the purchase of a shuttle bus to transport student groups and athletic teams during its regular board meeting held tonight on the College’s Brenham campus.
The shuttle bus, which is expected to cost between $86,000 and $117,000 depending upon the model selected, could save Blinn $510,000 in charter bus rental costs over the course of its expected 15-year or 250,000-mile lifespan. Those savings have already included the cost of paying a driver stipend as well as maintenance, fuel and insurance costs.
The board also authorized the administration to seek bids for three Suburbans to replace the 15-passenger vans currently used for transporting student groups.
The board accepted the donation of a Sojin grand piano from Edward and Elizabeth Gaither to be used in the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility.
Blinn’s next board meeting will be held Nov. 20 on the Brenham campus.
