Blinn expects more than 3,000 musicians at 38th annual Marching Band Festival

Festival will feature marching bands from 34 area high schools

Blinn College will host its 38th annual Buccaneer Marching Band Festival Saturday at Cub Stadium in Brenham.

The public is invited to attend the free day of music, as 34 of the area’s finest marching bands preview their University Interscholastic League contest shows for a panel of five judges.

The festival begins at 9:30 a.m., with the Brenham High School band scheduled to perform at 6:15 p.m. and the Blinn College drum line to follow at 6:30 p.m. The contest will close with an exhibition by the Buccaneer marching band at 8:30 p.m.

Sponsored by the Blinn College Music Department and hosted by the Blinn College Band, the event began as a recruitment project by Fine Arts Division Chair Larry Campbell.

“It’s amazing to see this event continue to grow,” Campbell said.  “This has been a major event for Blinn College for the past 37 years and draws many prospective students and their families to Brenham.”

The bands will compete for first, second and third place in their classification and for awards for drum major, soloist, color guard and drum line.

Concessions will be provided. Cub Stadium is located at 1600 E. Tom Green St. in Brenham.
