Twelve Buccaneers named to SWJCFC Football All-Conference team

Seven receive first team honors

BRENHAM, Texas - 12 total players from this year’s Blinn Buccaneer team were selected to the All-Conference team by the Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC), including seven on the first team.

Running back Marion Grice, offensive linemen Armondo Alvarez and Chris Grishby, defensive lineman John Gandy, linebacker Eddie Porter, defensive back Jeremy Baltazar and kicker Kurt Walker were each named to the SWJCFC All-Conference first team.

Grice, a sophomore from Aldine Nimitz, carried the ball 174 times for 1,052 yards and 16 touchdowns, good for eighth in the country. He also added 171 yards and two touchdowns on 14 catches out of the backfield. This was his second consecutive year as a first team all-conference selection.

Alvarez (R-SO, Houston North Shore) and Grishby (R-FR, Brazoswood), were key components in an offensive line that led the Bucs to an average of 513 yards of offense per game, which ranked third in the nation.

Gandy, a redshirt sophomore from Cy-Ridge, led the defensive line with 33 tackles (17 solo) and two sacks.

Porter, a redshirt sophomore from College Park, led the Bucs defense with three sacks and was third with 63 tackles (37 solo).

Baltazar, a sophomore from Timberview, finished the season with 33 tackles (19 solo) from the cornerback position.

Walker, a freshman from Hebron, finished second in the nation with 67 kicks made in 68 attempts. He finished the season 8-9 in field goals, including a NJCAA best 56 yarder in week four.

2nd Team Specialist:
P/Specialist Kyle Aubuchon (FR, Hebron)

2nd Team Punter:
P/Specialist Kyle Aubuchon (FR, Hebron)

The No. 5 Blinn Buccaneers finished the season with a 9-1 record and the SWJCFC regular season championship. They will play the ninth-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs (9-2) in the fourth annual Mississippi Bowl this Sunday, December 4th, in Biloxi, MS, with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. at Biloxi’s Indian Stadium.
