Blinn lecture series to highlight need for Americans to study Asian cultures

A free public lecture at Blinn College’s Bryan campus will explore the need to educate more Americans about the growing prominence of Asian countries on the world economic and political stage. Dr. Peter Hershock will present “Global Higher Education: Why Asian Studies, Why Now?” at noon on March 23 in the Student Center banquet room.

Dr. Hershock will discuss the reasons that Asian studies should be a vital part of the college curriculum. Hershock is coordinator of the Asian Studies Development Program, a joint program of the East-West Center and the University of Hawaii to enhance teaching about Asia at American two-year and four-year colleges and universities. He is a scholar of Buddhism and has authored and edited books on Asian religion, culture and values.

The Blinn College Distinguished Lecture Series is sponsored by the divisions of Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.
