Theater Arts students pick The Apple Tree for spring showcase

Blinn College Theater Arts students picked “The Apple Tree” to showcase their talents this spring. The Blinn College Theatre Arts Student Showcase will be held April 16-17 in the MRW Studio Theatre at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center on the Brenham campus.

“The Apple Tree” was a hit during the 1960’s. The musical comedy is based on Mark Twain’s “The Diary of Adam and Eve” with music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The performances will illustrate the age-old predicament when someone wants something, but when they get it, they realize it was not really what they desired.

Blinn Theater Arts Director Bradley Nies will direct “The Apple Tree.” There will also be productions written by Nies that will be directed by students. Sophomore Andy Burian will direct “That’s odd,” and sophomore Zina Evans will direct two short plays entitled “Not Wanting to Be a Bother” and “Bricks and Stones.”

The performances will be at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the Student Center ticket office, (979) 830-4024.
