Franchione accepts Coach of the Year award; Buccaneers honored as Team of the Year

Tonight Blinn College Head Coach Brad Franchione will be honored as the 2009 American Community College Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year. The award will be presented to Franchione at the American Football Coaches Association Convention in Orlando.

Also today at the convention, the Blinn Buccaneers received the FieldTurf Football Award for Junior College Team of the Year. The Buccaneers won their second national championship under Franchione by beating Fort Scott (KS) Community College in the Citizens Bank Bowl on Dec. 6. Blinn also won the national title in 1995 and 1996.

In his five years at Blinn College, Franchione has amassed a 46-10 record and has coached 16 All-Americans including four on this year’s list.

The ACCFCA is an organization encompassing the California Community College Football Coaches Association and the National Junior College Football Coaches Association.

The FieldTurf awards are based on tabulated votes from Howie Long and FieldTurf executives, which include a group of former NFL stars. FieldTurf is part of Tarkett Sports, a Division of the Tarkett Group. Tarkett Sports is the largest entity in the sports and landscape surfacing industries.
