Religion in US History to be topic of Blinn lecture
The role of religion in United States history will be the focus of a public lecture on Blinn College’s Bryan campus on Nov. 12. Furman University President Dr. David Shi will speak at noon in the Student Center banquet room. The appearance is sponsored by the Blinn College Division of Social Sciences, and is free and open to the public.
Dr. Shi is the co-author of the U.S. History textbook “America: A Narrative History.” He is also the author of “The Simple Life: Plain Living and High Thinking in American Culture,” which was a History Book Club selection, and two other books that were nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
In 1994, Dr. Shi was named president of the Greenville, NC, university and will retire next year. He is a Furman graduate with a degree in political science. He earned a master’s and a doctorate in history from the University of Virginia.
