Famous deaf woman to perform, present in American Sign Language at Blinn

Blinn College’s Bryan campus will host “A Night of Improv with Trix: Whose ASL Is It?” on April 3 followed the next day by a workshop with American Sign Language performer Patricia “Trix” Bruce. Bruce’s One Deaf-Woman Show spotlights her skills as an outstanding communicator. The show follows the format of the television improvisation show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and uses participants from the audience in the humorous skits.

The April 4 workshop will delve into the intricacy of American Sign Language by featuring non-manual signals in face-painting exercises that demonstrate of how facial behaviors and head movements are interpreted. Professionals can receive continuing education units for this workshop. Voice interpreters are available upon request.

The improv show begins at 7 p.m. on April 3 at the Blinn College Student Center banquet room. Admission is $5; free for Blinn students. The workshop is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on April 4 also in the banquet room. The cost is $25 if paid before March 24; $35 at the door. There is no charge for Blinn students. Checks are payable to Brazos Valley Interpreters for the Deaf (BVID), P.O. Box 9613, College Station, TX 77842-9613.
