Click It or Ticket campaign comes to Blinn College
Blinn College’s Bryan campus will host the kickoff to this year’s Click It or Ticket campaign on May 2. Blinn is joining with the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas AgriLife Extension Service's Brazos Valley Injury Prevention Coalition, and PHI Flight Paramedic to educate college students and citizens of the Brazos Valley about the increased enforcement of the state safety belt law. This year’s Click It or Ticket mobilization runs through June 1.
The kickoff event runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with demonstrations of the Rollover Convincer to illustrate the importance of using a safety belt. The display will take place in the plaza near the Student Center.
A record 91.83 percent of Texans buckled up in 2007 according to surveys conducted by the Texas Transportation Institute. Before Click It or Ticket enforcement and public education efforts began in 2002, only 76 percent of Texans followed the safety belt law. The state estimates since 2001, adherence to the law has equated to a savings of $6.66 billion in wage and productivity losses, medical expenses, administrative expenses, motor vehicle damage, employer costs, taxes, insurance premiums, travel delays and a measure of the value of lost quality of life.
