Blinn College receives donation from International Muffler
Ken Banks, president and owner of International Muffler Co. in Schulenburg, has pledged a $45,000 contribution over three years for
Blinn College to develop a technical training program on the
college’s Schulenburg campus.
A portion of the gift will also be used for costs associated with
the relocation of the Schaefer Observatory in Schulenburg to the
campus, including moving costs, a slab and minor repair.
“We are so grateful to Mr. Banks for his generous gift,” said
Barbara Moore, campus dean. “This will allow us to begin developing
a technical program that will complement the academic transfer
program we now have in Schulenburg.”
Blinn, a two-year college based in Brenham, opened the Schulenburg
campus in 1997 and offers accredited college-level transfer courses
in arts and sciences for those students seeking associate degrees or
intending to transfer to senior institutions.
Technical training allowing students to enter the workforce after
completion of the program has been offered in office medical technology.
“With this donation we will be able to develop a construction
trades program that includes heating, ventilation and air
conditioning, electrical, plumbing and welding courses,” said Moore.
The historic Schaefer Observatory built in 1930 has been donated to
the college by Greg and Stephanie.
“We are honored to be the new owners and caretakers of this
community landmark, and this gift allows us to preserve the
observatory for future generations,” said. Moore. “It will also be
valuable to our astronomy courses on this campus.”

Paul Banks, vice president of International Muffler, presents a check for $45,000 to Barbara Moore, dean of the Blinn College campus in Schulenburg.
