Blinn College has 36 named to all state band


The Blinn College band program had 36 students earn seats in the Texas Community College All-State Concert Band, Larry Campbell, director of bands, has announced.

In addition Brandon Quam, euphonium player from Georgetown, was selected as an all-state soloist.
The 36 selected equals the most ever placed on the all-state band from Blinn since the group was formed in 1974, Campbell said.

The all-state band, as well as the all-state soloists, will perform at the Texas Music Educator’s Association annual convention Feb. 17th in the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in San Antonio. Robert McElroy from Houston Baptist University, who is also the director of the Houston Symphonic Band, will be the guest conductor.

Blinn students selected by instrument are:
Flute -- Michelle Lassiter of College Station, Alyssa McKnight of Midlothian and Melinda Adams of Cypress;

Clarinet -- Chris Stringfellow of Cypress, Lanee Johnston of Brenham, Veronica Cantu of Bryan, Amanda Stuchly of Sealy, Melissa Ouellette of Houston, Joshua Turnipseed of McDade, Roxanne Muniz of San Antonio, Christina Shipley of College Station, Chris Tocci of College Station and Alysia Ramirez of Sealy;

Bass clarinet -- Jacqui Dupree of Spring and Nicole Bonse of Needville;

Contra bass clarinet -- Nicholas Million of Lyons;

Bassoon -- Bethany Adams of Houston;

Alto sax -- Brian Visser of Houston;

Tenor sax -- Rene Lara of Dallas;

Trumpet -- Kirsten Boynt of San Marcos, Michael Edmiston of Cypress, Adam Brust of Spicewood, and Sasha Stuntz and Barret Manning both of Dickinson;

Horn -- Stan Hildebrand of Katy, Theresa Crawford of Houston and Elaina George of Needville;

Trombone -- Brad Visser of Houston;

Euphonium -- Andrew Schmalzer of Katy, Cole Smith of Cypress and Quam;

Tuba -- David Spence of Texas City, Seth Christensen of Brenham and Jonathan Lafferty of Houston;

And percussion --  Rickey Astorga of San Antonio and Clay Jasper of Montgomery.

Blinn continually earns more seats in all-state band than any other two-year college in the state.
