If you haven't already heard, I believe in homework.  I will do every reasonable thing I can to help you be successful in this class.  It is my job to motivate you to learn the required mathematics to be successful in this class.  You will therefore have the necessary background for the next course.  The best motivator that I have found is the grade.  Therefore, I assign homework on a daily basis, grade it and return it to you, usually at the next class meeting. I do not grade every problem, but every homework assignment will be graded.

I believe that students are better prepared for class if the instructor is consistent.  I rarely give pop quizes.  (Pop quizes are used when the class needs a wake-up call.)  I expect you to study for the quiz.  That is why the quizes are listed on the tentative schedule.

My students usually comment that I am thorough and that I make sure everyone understands a concept.  I encourage your questions during class.  If you have a question, there is probably another student in the class who is wondering the same thing.  If you feel like you are the only one not understanding a concept then come by my office during my office hours.  The students that have been the most successful in the past have come either to my office or to the Learning Center for help when they are having problems with the homework.
