Do you feel confused about how to begin your research project? Try using the Library Research Process. It is comprised of steps that help you define your topic, select appropriate sources, and conduct an effective search for sources. Keep in mind that research is a recursive process; as you learn more about your topic, your thesis may evolve and you may need to gather and evaluate additional information to refine your topic.

Seven Steps to Library Research:

1. Select a Topic
2. Find Background Information
3. Identify Search Terms
4. Know What Types of Sources You Need to Find
5. Search for Sources of Information
6. Evaluate Your Sources
7. Cite Your Sources
