There are two ways to search for books and audiovisuals in the library's collection:

Search the Library Catalog

For best results enter the main words that describe your topic (e.g., plate tectonics) not long sentences or phrases. Try both subject and keyword searching and think of synonymous, narrower, and broader terms for your topic

To access the library catalog from the library's home page, click on "SEARCH THE LIBRARY CATALOG," which is listed on the horizontal menu bar. You also may access the catalog from the FIND IT - BOOKS section of the home page.

Academic Search Complete - The world's largest academic multi-disciplinary database. Provides full text for nearly 5,300 scholarly publications, including full text for more than 4,400 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans virtually every area of academic study and offers information dating as far back as 1865. Also includes a searchable collection of images.

AGRICOLA - Contains bibliographic records from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Library. Coverage dates back to 1970 and includes more than 2.5 million citations. The citations are comprised of journal articles, monographs, theses, patents, software, audiovisual materials, and technical reports related to science and agriculture.

Science & Technology Collection - Contains over 800 leading full text journals covering relevant aspects of the scientific and technical community. Topics include geology, biology, marine sciences, aeronautics, astrophysics, chemistry, computer technology, aviation, physics, archaeology, and materials science. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 1,700 publications.

Directory of Open Access Journals(DOAJ) - Covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. There are now 2998 journals in the directory. Currently 973 journals are searchable at article level. As of December 2007, 164580 articles were included in the DOAJ service.

eLibrary Curriculum Edition - Designed specifically for K-12 schools and libraries. Students find the answers they need from more than 2,000 full-text magazines, newspapers, reference books, and transcripts-plus thousands of pictures, maps, educator-approved websites from Homework Central®, plus audio/video content.

Sirs Researcher - SIRS is a general database containing thousands of full-text articles exploring social, scientific, historic, economic, political, and global issues. Articles are carefully selected from domestic and international newspapers, magazines, journals, and government publications. Brief summaries accompany all articles added to the database since 1994. Images are available for some articles.

What if a periodical index does not have the entire text of an article I need?

If the full text of an article is not available in a library database, it is possible to check another database for the full text or determine if the library owns a print version of a publication. Refer to "Locate Journals & Magazines in the Library" for an explanation on how to find full text articles.
