Library Mission Statement

MISSION AND OBJECTIVES OF THE BLINN COLLEGE LIBRARY

The Blinn College Library supports teaching and learning, intellectual and professional growth, and the aesthetic and cultural development of Blinn College students, faculty, staff, and community populations. We provide resources, services, and expertise to enrich the lives and broaden the horizons of our users while preparing students to be informed, responsible citizens and life-long learners who function effectively in a technological, information-based society.

In order to fulfill this mission, the library has established the following objectives:

  • To provide a substantive, relevant and accessible collection of information resources in a variety of formats to support the mission and goals of Blinn College. Including:
    • Materials and resources to support the curricula in the institution’s programs
    • Materials and resources to support the faculty in achieving its instructional and professional goals
    • Materials and resources to provide recreational and personal development opportunities for faculty and students
    • Materials and resources for the use of adult citizens in improving their business, technical, professional, cultural or social skills and knowledge
    • Materials and resources relating to the history of Texas, Washington and nearby counties, and Blinn College
  • To support a climate of intellectual inquiry and growth by providing materials and information resources that reflect varying viewpoints on artistic, philosophical, political, religious, and social issues, including materials/resources which may be controversial
  • To provide access to information resources through systematic and accurate organization, circulation and delivery services, and discovery tools
  • To provide instruction and guidance in information literacy, the research process, and the use of information resources, materials, and services, using a variety of formats and modes of delivery
  • To collaborate with the teaching faculty in the selection and use of library resources, services, and instruction
  • To provide adequate physical facilities and equipment for housing, servicing, delivery, and use of information resources and materials
  • To provide adequate space and comfortable accommodations for students to study individually and collaborate with each other in learning communities
