Federal Government

USA.gov (formerly FirstGov.gov) As the official U.S. gateway to all government information, searching USA.gov provides access to millions of federal and state government web pages that are not generally available on commercial websites. You can also do business with the government online: you can apply for student financial assistance, buy government publications, apply for social security and other benefits, get a passport application, and more. USA.gov also has a Spanish-language web portal, Gobierno USA.gov.

Census Atlas of the United States is the first comprehensive atlas of population and housing produced by the Census Bureau since the 1920s. The Census Atlas is a large-format publication about 300 pages long (in Adobe Acrobat PDF format) and containing almost 800 maps. Data from censuses prior to 2000 support nearly 150 maps and figures, providing context and an historical perspective for many of the topics presented. Topics include: Population, Migration, Race, Age and Sex, Ancestry, Education, Income and Poverty, Housing, and Military Service.

Occupational Outlook Handbook The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives. The Handbook is revised every two years.

Official Congressional Directory biographical sketches of members of Congress, lists of committee members, names and addresses for government departments and agencies, and congressional district maps.

SIRS Government Reporter (Library subscription database) Search for full text government documents selected by SIRS editors. Statistical Abstract of the United States A collection of over a thousand federal and state government as well as non-governmental statistics covering various topics. Areas of coverage include, population and vital statistics, health, economics, education, manufacturing, natural resources, transportation, and the U.S. Industrial Outlook. This resource is updated every two years.

THOMAS: Legislative Information on the Internet tracks legislation through both houses of Congress, provides access to the Congressional Record and committee information.

U.S. House of Representatives Web Page includes profiles of House members and access to the legislative process, legislative information, committees and organizations of the House, and congressional schedules. You can use your address, zip code, county, or district to find your representatives.

U.S. Senate Web Page information about senators, senate leadership, senate history and procedures, committees, legislative activities, and schedules of meetings and hearings.

U.S. Government Census Bureau detailed U. S. census information and data. Online census data is available from 1990 to the present.

U.S. Government Manual provides comprehensive information on the agencies of the legislative, judicial, and executive branches. It also includes information on quasi-official agencies, international organizations in which the United States participates, and boards, commissions, and committees.
